New Study Shows Republican Congressmen are More Likely to Pay their Interns than Democrats—Despite Democratic Soap-boxing
According to a study from a nonpartisan group called “Pay Our Interns”, Republican Members of Congress are more likely to provide paid internships than are Democratic Members.
In the Senate, 51% of Republicans offered paid internships as opposed to 31% of Democrats. In the House, 8% of Republicans paid their interns as opposed to only 3.6% of Democrats.
This is ironic and embarrassing for Democrats, who spew vitriol against Republicans about their imagined hatred of students.
It’s also embarrassing in particular for the Democrats who wanted to raise the Federal minimum wage to $15 per hour, via recently proposed legislation. This includes some bigwigs such as Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, Cory Booker, Nancy Pelosi, and Maxine Waters.
Cory Booker also has a history of being a hypocrite when it comes to education, particularly when he blocked Betsy Devos’ appointment, considering he worked with her before and supports many of the same policies. Given that, it’s not surprising that he doesn’t hold himself to his own standards when it comes to paying interns—he’s a hypocrite.
Democrats would be better off putting their money where their mouths are when it comes to minimum wage, and paying their interns—especially since they (allegedly) value education so much.
